The Stewart Clendenin Team at Rappahannock Educational Farm
The Rappahannock Educational Farm is an exciting new initiative taking root in Fredericksburg, VA. This nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization is dedicated to addressing food insecurity by growing fresh produce and donating it to local food banks and pantries. In addition to its charitable efforts, the farm educates individuals on how to grow their own food and provides a welcoming, inclusive space for the community to get involved.
The REF’s journey began with a 2,200-square-foot garden at the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, where volunteers successfully grew and harvested over 2,000 pounds of fresh produce in their inaugural season. Now, with a sprawling 9-acre plot, the opportunities for growth are limitless.
Our team had the privilege of spending two hours at REF, helping prepare a large section of land for planting. We cleared sticks and debris to ensure the area could be easily plowed, with plans to process the material through a wood chipper. As we look ahead to Spring 2025, REF will be seeking many more volunteers, and we can't wait to return and lend a hand again!
